TRUCK BLOG - HOME

 15/01/2010 - 9.45 PM

I know this is a little late...it has taken a few days to recover.

We arrived in Mildura late afternoon on Tuesday. It was a long trip. Luckily we had the freight train Wez leading the way or it could have been a very long trip. I believe that Foz and Andrew arrived back in Sydney yesterday and Wez got back to the farm on Tuesday night.

Make sure you check out the workshop blog over the next few weeks to see what happens between events at DMR.

Make sure you send us an email with any comments or questions you have.

TRUCK BLOG - MORE BLOWN TYRES

 12/01/2010 - 10.45 AM

We are just leaving Port Augusta.

Foz blew a tyre in Phil Reads trailer 5 kilometres out of Port Augusta. After fitting a new tyre to the trailer a quick inspection of the DMR trailer revealed a blown tyre. So we took both trailers to Bridgestone and had a spare tyre fitted to the DMR trailer and two new steer tyres and three new tyres on the trailer fitted to Phil Reads trailer. Luckily Phil made it to the finals and the prize money should nearly pay for the tyres.

We stayed in a parking bay near Iron Knob last night. We had steak and snags for tea and bacon and eggs for breakfast. We should be back in Mildura late afternoon today.

TRUCK BLOG - THE RETURN TRIP

 11/01/2010 - 11.00AM

We will keep you updated on the return trip.

We have the same crew heading back.

Baz and Ben - DMR

Wez - Lamattina

Foz - Read

Andrew - Stamatis

We left the race track on Sunday morning. We stopped several times as the drivers were all very tired from the race meeting. We had breakfast at Merkering, fuel at Yellowdine, Checkup at Noresman and lots more breaks once it started to get dark. We stopped at in the middle of WA last night.

We had an issue on the DMR trailer when 2 trailer wheel studs broke which caused the wheel to come loose. Luckily we found the problem before the wheel came off when we stopped at Yellowdine for fuel. It took us an hour to get it all fixed up.

We caught up with Bob Shepherd at last night. He told us some stories from his trip on the way over and I think we need to tell some.

*He started noticing a few noises coming out of the old Benz. He said it was a pretty easy fix... he removed his hearing aid.

*On the way over he decided he needed to stand up and have a stretch while driving. When he did he accidently hit the steering wheel raise/lower button and the steering wheel fell to the floor and he couldn't get it back up. He said it was one of the most frightening experiences of his life.

This morning we assisted some French backpackers who's car had developed a bad engine knock. As you can imagine 4 truck drivers trying to diagnose the problem was quite funny. We had everything in pieces. We traced it to a problem with the #4 exhaust valve. Im not going to give away how we fixed it but lets say the four cylinder in now a three cylinder.

We are now at the WA/SA border.

Check back tonight for another update.
