Darren Morgan and his team took off where they left off at the first event of the 400 Thunder Series at Sydney Dragway on the weekend with a runner up to American Cory McClenathan.

The orange and black dragster turned heads all weekend with its striking new livery and strong performances against the world’s best.

With a small shower of rain Saturday afternoon, competition was pushed back and Top Fuel was only able to get two runs in for the night.

The AEG Powertools dragster experienced tyre shake in the first run, but topped the field with a 4.87 in the second session, placing top qualifier for the night.

The third qualifier was moved to the following morning where DMR smoked the tyres, landing them in the 4th qualifier spot.

“We are excited by the car’s performance. All weekend it was trying to run low 4.60’s and it took a few runs to slow it down to the track conditions,” Morgan said.

Round one saw DMR get a lucky break when Terry Sainty had a technical foul and the AEG Powertools dragster smoked the tyres at halftrack.

Morgan then took the win over current Australian champion Damien Harris in the semi finals with a 4.74 to a 4.81.

The 400 Thunder fans were treated to a spectacle in the final with side by side 4.60’s capping off a great meeting. Morgan was ultimately beaten on a holeshot by RAI driver Cory McClenathan, with DMR running a 4.67 to a 4.68.

“The team performed flawlessly throughout the whole weekend, with our two new additions being able to have a smooth transition. It felt like our team had been together for years,” Morgan said.

“Thanks very much to everyone that has been involved putting this together.”

Drag racing lovers from around Australia and the world were also able to watch the event by streaming it live online. The new initiative by 400 Thunder will see the entire series streamed online, providing a great way for fans to keep up with the series.

DMR are eager to do one better at the next 400 Thunder Series in Perth on February 19-20 at the West Coast Nitro event.

The team are currently 2nd in the points, behind Cory McClenathan and 22 points ahead of 3rd placed Damien Harris.

DMR would like to thank their major partners AEG Powertools and Shannons Insurance as well as their many associate partners.
